Our Story
Back in 2019 I started getting the itch to bring out my creative side. I started with epoxy tumblers, then to sublimation, and landed on a passion to create pieces from wood. My mom was restoring furniture all the time and she was the best teacher (as well my dad!). My grandfather had recently passed away and among many others, he was one of my biggest supporters. I wanted to keep his memory with me and so JFP Designs was created. His name was James Fredrick and we always called him Pob. Never could I have imagined what this little idea could have developed into and there’s no turning back now!
In 2021, I lost my best friend; my mom. When she died a part of me went with her. The days aren’t easy but I knew she would want me to keep going and not give up. Somehow everything aligned and I was given an opportunity to dive into a retail space selling my products and I knew it was her making it happen. I’ve been here at the Mint Leaf since March 2022 and it has been a great experience. Originally I had wanted to honor my mom with a seasonal collection that I would release 3-4 times per year. The collection would encompass some of her favorite things - hydrangeas, chipmunks, and the beach, just to name a few. I quickly realized that wouldn’t be enough and RaeLynn Timber was created! RaeLynn is a combination of our middle names and together we got through everything.
When I rebranded I knew that I wanted to have more purpose to my business and really support something that I loved. I’ve been a volunteer firefighter for 20 years and was recently promoted to Lieutenant. I am the first female in my department to become a line officer and one of the first in the county. I joined because my brother is a firefighter and I loved hearing his stories. I met my husband through the fire service and his family is also deeply entwined into the volunteer world. I knew exactly what organizations I wanted to support.
Small fire departments have a hard time getting federal funding due to low call volume or small coverage areas which can make it difficult for those departments to equip their members with proper training, PPE, and other equipment to safely do their job. I want to help bridge that gap and support them in any way that I can. I have established a fund using 30% of all sales that will be donated to organizations that need it. If I can support a department to buy a set of turnout gear for a new member, it’s one less thing they need to worry about. Be sure to check out my website for application details, current money raised, and where funds have been awarded.
Thank you for supporting my small business! Not only are you supporting my dream, but you’re helping to protect those who volunteer to protect and serve their communities.
